This is Mango. We’ve had him about a month and a half and it seems to be working out between us. We think he’s about 3 years old and have no idea what type of dog he is but he sure is cute. We recently had to put our lovely 16 year old shepherd mix to sleep because of a cancerous tumor. Timber was an incredibly fantastic dog and we really miss her. My way of dealing with her loss was not only a case of Pinot Noir but a new dog.
Mango was rescued from the streets of Taiwan by an organization that brings unwanted, down on their luck dogs to the San Francisco Bay area to be adopted. I had no intention of adopting a dog from Taiwan, it just happened that he fit our requirements. Won’t eat kids or cats.
Mango had a tough time in Taiwan. He was almost killed when a car hit him and broke his snout, so when he smiles it’s crooked. Very cute. I also think he was abused because when I raised my voice after he ate some delicious brioche rolls that were on the kitchen counter he cowered like I was going to hit him. I told him it was okay and kissed him. I’m sure not the best way teach him not to steal food, but I felt so bad for him. He farts a little and burps too, but other than that he’s really great. He even puts up with our toddler running up and pawing him. We love him to bits.
If you’re planning on getting an animal please look into the many rescue organizations that are out there. We found Mango on a site called petfinder.com Type in your zip code and they’ll locate all the rescue groups and shelters in your area. Most have photos and descriptions of the dogs. Cats too, and chickens if you’re interested.
