A Night Out!

It’s been a very long time since my husband and I have been out. At night. Alone. Since August to be exact and a lovely evening was had by all. We had so much fun we’ll be doing it again. When? In May.

Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. With the price of a sitter at $20 per hour plus dinner, drinks, cab ride to and from our destination we’re looking at close to $300 for a night on the town. So to make things a little easier on the wallet we like to go and see bands play. There are a lot great venues in the San Francisco Bay area to see music and tickets are somewhat reasonably priced so a night out doesn’t seen so horrible, and our kids will be able to eat the next day.
We’ve seen some good bands come through the city : Sigur Ros, Franz Ferdinand, Doves, Elbow, Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Rush (yes, I know, totally geeky) Interpol (my husband fell asleep during this show) and Radiohead  just to name a few. Coldplay come to mind. I enjoyed their first two records so we thought we’d go see them a couple summers ago. Umm. Not quite my cup of tea. The crowd was a mix of screaming teenagers and middle aged couples wearing Bermuda shorts. The music was just like being in my car listening to the CD. It was adequate. Nothing different, nothing interesting. Perhaps they’ve changed their live show but we left early.
We also saw 70′s prog rock band Yes at the same venue. Lead singer Jon Anderson came on stage wearing a pastel colored jogging outfit and white sneakers which he changed during each break (they took quite a few, so I counted 3 outfits) while the keyboardist Rick Wakeman wore a black Dracula style cape circa 1972. Very funny.
We’ll be seeing Animal Collective in May and hopefully once the kids are a little bigger we can just bring them along, leave them in car with a bag of Doritos and some mace. They’ll be fine.

Oh you are so lucky at least, you get to see all this bands live (although I do agree, that live concerts by bands, are hardly any good compared to the cd versions).

We get a good band every 2 years or so, and sometimes, the price, well it bites us hard.

Hope to be able to live there someday. :)

Enjoy your lives as much as you can! See ya!

Thanks Andy, wow, must be hard to wait a couple years to see a good show but it probably makes it that much better…
