I thought I would share the story of how our dog Mango (the artist formerly known as Yan Yan) managed to survive living on the streets of Taiwan only to end up in a swanky off the hook flat in uber trendy San Francisco…..
Yan Yan was wandering at the back gate of Chung-Yuan University when a car hit him and his jawbone was broken in three pieces. Animal Protection Association volunteers took him to a veterinary hospital after the accident was reported to the police. Even though he was badly hurt and had blood all over him, he still trusted humans. On the way to the hospital, he was
wide-awake with his body stiff, but he was still willing to be in the hands of volunteers. He was very obedient and prepared for the unknown future. Yan Yan went through two operations to have his jawbone mended. He stayed at the hospital for more than a month. He recovered very well and rapidly because he was still young. In the last week at the hospital, he growled because he could no longer stand the loneliness in the cage. They decided to take him back to the place where he wandered around. However, it was winter then and I didn’t want him to live outside and suffer cold and starvation. I took him to our school dog yard though there were already too many dogs there.
Yan Yan is very submissive and he will never provoke other dogs or fights. He is happy to be there with thirty other dogs. He loves human contact. He wags his tail passionately and welcomes everyone. I could tell that he was thankful to me that I gave him a warm shelter and plenty of food. Our new principal doesn’t like to have dogs in the school. He asked me to take out all the dogs before I retire. There were more than thirty dogs and if I can’t find homes, they’ll be put down. Yan Yan is a survivor of a near-death accident and I hope he will find a loving home with a caring family in America. I’m sure Yan Yan will say “Thank you so much for saving me!!”
I know there are thousands of dogs in this country that need rescuing but we instantly fell in love with Mango Yan Yan. Yes he has a horrible farting problem but doesn’t everyone?
